Frequently Asked Questions

Jawsaver is ideal for noisy teeth grinders who find their mouth guards uncomfortable.

Some bruxers clench their teeth and hold it in position for a long time. This movement doesn’t produce sufficient acoustic signal for the device to target.

Take this short quiz to assess if Jawsaver is right for you.

You could use this free mobile app to help you with this assessment.

Recent reports of teeth grinding noise from a bed partner is also one of the more reliable way to tell if someone is currently grinding their teeth.

Tooth wear can be an unreliable indicator as an acidic diet and other conditions (e.g. GERD) also affect tooth wear, and the wear from grinding might have happened in the past.

If you sleep alone, or have a partner who can sleep through an earthquake, then you could also record yourself for a few nights and see if you could hear these unique teeth grinding sounds (This is what teeth grinding sounds like).

When teeth grinding is detected, the wristband will vibrate and prompt you to stop.

Since the majority of teeth grinding episodes occur during light sleep15 , you are more likely to notice the vibration. In addition, because you are already in light sleep, it is also less likely for the vibration to disrupt your sleep.

Our beta participants did not experience reduction in their sleep quality.

In addition, other bruxism biofeedback devices that use noise, vibration, even light electrical shock have shown that user’s sleep duration, quality and architecture aren’t affected by the biofeedback2-7, so you can expect the same result from Jawsaver.

As soon as you use it, the vibration biofeedback should help stop and reduce the duration of your teeth grinding episodes.

We are optimistic that consistent use of Jawsaver over time will result in reduction in frequency of teeth grinding, similar to results that have been observed with other biofeedback devices. However, we are currently still studying and testing this hypothesis.

It’s unlikely as we still don’t know what causes teeth grinding. In addition, some level of teeth grinding is actually considered normal9. Instead, we want to reduce it to a level where it does not cause jaw or dental problems.

Please note that Jawsaver is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any medical conditions. The purpose of the device is to help bring more awareness when you are grinding your teeth so that you are able to change your behavior and stop your grinding habit.
